Necessity to dewater alfalfa by using rotary alfalfa dryer

In the past, the farmers use sunshine to dry the alfalfa in the field, and it is influenced a lot by the weather. But its efficiency is rather low.  There are much details needed to care for Harvesting and drying.

What should we pay attention to when harvesting and drying alfalfa by Sunshine in the field ?

Problems needing attention during harvesting.

1. Select the harvest time. In order to obtain high-yield and high-quality alfalfa, it must be harvested at the stage of relatively high yield and the most nutritious. The highest nutritional value of alfalfa is from the early stage of bud pregnancy to the early stage of flowering. Therefore, alfalfa should be harvested before the early stage of flowering.

2. Pay attention to the weather and strengthen management. Although the weather is not easy to be controlled by people, the correct management arrangement can reduce the losses caused by the weather. The number of grass mowed per day should not exceed the production and processing capacity of the subsequent baler, stacker and other forage compressors in one day. Pay close attention to the weather forecast and local weather conditions to determine whether the grass can be cut in the selected period.

3. Surface soil condition. The upper layer of 0.6~0.7cm soil should be kept dry before harvesting. Too wet soil will make cut alfalfa stick too much soil, affecting the quality of hay. In addition, too wet topsoil will affect the working state of machinery.

4. Determine the stubble height. Generally, the lower the stubble, the higher the alfalfa harvest. However, too low stubble will affect the regeneration ability of alfalfa, and too low stubble is not conducive to the drying of cut alfalfa. Because a certain height of stubble has the function of aerial cut alfalfa, which enhances the permeability and accelerates the drying of alfalfa.

However, stubble height is too high and bad, which will affect the yield of alfalfa. Generally, stubble height can be 5~7cm, and the stubble height can be 1~2cm higher than the first harvest at the last harvest of the year, so as to enhance the regeneration and overwintering ability of alfalfa.

Precautions during drying alfalfa :

1. Try to avoid sun exposure. On the premise of ensuring that the alfalfa will not become moldy due to high moisture content, the cut alfalfa should be gathered into grass strips or piles as soon as possible to make the alfalfa dry in the shade.

2. Try to avoid rain. After the rain stops, the alfalfa soaked in the rain should be turned over or moved in time, and the grass should be moved from the low-lying place to the higher place, so as to minimize the loss.

3. Under normal weather conditions, during the whole drying process, the number of mechanical actions on grass strips (haystacks) should be reduced as much as possible, and the mechanical action intensity should be reduced. Especially when the moisture content of alfalfa falls below 40%, try not to turn the grass strips again to avoid the loss of leaves.
